Putting Development on a Map
The Partnership builds on the World Bank's Mapping for Results Initiative (M4R). It has mapped 30,000
activities in all 143 of its client countries. M4R overlays project data with sub-national poverty and human
development indicators at the local level. The initiative is based on the premise that the combination of
visualization technologies and open data on development assistance can enable a more transparent,
inclusive and effective development process.
Local Geographic Data Matters
Establishing a feedback loop between citizens and governments is crucial so citizens can report on the effectiveness of aid programs and the quality of public services. This requires improved access to information about the geographic location of development projects, funding sources and results indicators.
The Open Aid Partnership will provide open and free access to project
locations, human development data and results at the sub-national and local level.
